As most of you may know, the biggest event in the fashion calendar has taken place. The Met Gala. Most of us dream of one day going and seeing all of the beautiful high fashion looks. This year’s theme was “ American Independence “. This theme was broad and allowed guests to express what they truly thought of our history. And although the Gala is a once-a-year type of thing, I wanted to help all the people who followed the night feel a little more Met at home. Because why should something so fabulous only last but one day? I think good things should last, so, here are some of my tips on how to have a Met of your own.
A fantastic dress is certainly the first step. Now the met is a high-fashion out-of-the-box event, so you can wear literally anything you want. I love a good dramatic dress something that says FASHION. Since it’s your event you get to make your own theme of course but going with this year’s official theme here are some great options in red, white, and blue. Okay so I know I said dresses but this First look in white is literally perfect. It’s a military-inspired pant-suit and that is the perfect ode to American fashion. Now the beginning of women’s independence is a huge part of American Independence. A major playing field in women’s independence was flappers. And we have a beautiful Fringetastic Dress that is dazzling in red. Now, what is more American than the 4th of July? So why now sparkle in a beautiful Blue Sequin number that will make you feel like a firework.
The perfect dress obviously needs the perfect pair of shoes. And a simple heel would look stunning with any of the three dresses in this post. A classic pump is an elegant hat tip to the revolution of fashion. Pumps have been a staple for practically forever! I think something like a DIY Met Gala is the perfect reason to take a classic closet staple such as the Mary Jane and make it a little more modern. Finish off your Met look with the Modern Day Mary Janes. If you wanna make a splash, throw on a fantastic pair of powerful boots. They come in patterned or printed.
One of the most important Met events is hands down the photos. I mean, pics or it didn’t happen right? So don't forget to flat your stuff and have an at home Met Inspired photoshoot! And when you post your iconic looks be sure to tag us @grrlygrrls
